Does Macy’s Offer Price Protection? Here’s What You GOTTA Know

Surprisingly, I’ve written very few articles about Macy’s over the years. As one of the long standing department stores in the country, they were founded WAY back in 1858, this needs to change. So it’s with this in mind that I wanted to talk about the price protection policy at Macy’s and some insider tips that’ll help you save some money. Here’s everything you need to know to get a Macy’s price adjustment and some hard earned money back in your wallet.

Does Macy's Offer Price Protection? Here's What You GOTTA Know

So…Does Macy’s Offer Price Protection?

Yes.

Macy’s gives you 10 days from the date of purchase to get price protection, also known as a “Price Adjustment”, if they lower the price of something you previously bought.

You can get a price adjustment on BOTH online and in-store purchases.

Be aware that Macys.com and Macy’s brick and mortar locations often have different prices on the same exact items which presents great opportunities to get a price adjustment (more on this later).

Do They Also Price Match Competitor Pricing?

No.

Back in 2022, Macy’s stopped matching the lower price of competitors.

Since Macy’s carries mainly their own in-house brands this wasn’t too big of a deal.

How Do I Get Macy’s Price Protection?

In-Store: Simply bring the item and receipt back into the Macy’s store of purchase and they’ll verify the lower price and refund you back to your original form of payment. You should be able to get this done at any checkout register in the store.

Online: Macy’s asks that you start a Live Chat session with them by clicking on the Chat Online link located at the bottom of this page. and tell them you’d like to get a price adjustment and they’ll gladly help you out.

Are There Any Product Exclusions?

Yes.

The exclusions list is very small and only includes items sold on the Macy’s Digital Marketplace or come directly from Vendor partners.

Can I Buy Online and Get an In-Store Price Adjustment?

Yes.

This is actually a really cool shopping hack at Macy’s that was brought to my attention by a loyal reader.

Here’s the FULL scenario:

She was shopping at her local Macy’s and well, why don’t I just let her explain it in her own words…

“Wanted to let you know of a great deal I scored at Macy’s this week. I got a pair of Silver brand jeans, regular retail price of $85, for $4.99! They were special priced as they were the last pair in the store (on a mannequin), and not my size. I had a very helpful sales clerk inform me that I could order them online in my size for around $76, then come into the store and get them returned (and exchanged) for the in-store special price. They were $16.99 in-store, by the time I got them ordered and back in to return, the in-store price went down to $4.99! They even credited my shopping costs! Crazy!! Best deal I’ve ever gotten!”

Awesome. So let’s break this down a bit so you can give it a try.

Here are some IMPORTANT details to look for:

1. Look for Clearance Items

  • By only looking at the clearance rack you’re much more likely to find items that will fit the “buy online and return to store” criteria.
  • Look for items that are darn near out of stock which they don’t have in your size. This should not be that difficult.

TIP: The only way this works is if the store’s website is selling the item for more than the in-store price. This actually happens all the time as brick & mortar stores are constantly slashing prices in an effort to clear out inventory to make room for new styles.

2. How To Return and Re-Buy

  • Once you find an item you want that is a screaming deal, just order from the website, return in-store, and get a price adjustment to the lower price.
  • If the store you are shopping at has a smartphone app, and most big department stores do, make sure you download it and have it available when shopping in-store. You’ll be able to quickly see what the stores website is selling the item for and find some great “deal opportunities”.

Here is a list of popular store apps where this would work, including Macy’s, to help facilitate this clever shopping hack:

– Macy’s (Android, iOS)

– American Eagle Outfitters (Android, iOS)

– Nordstrom (iOS)

– Kohl’s (Android, iOS)

– JCPenney (Android, iOS)

– Old Navy (Android, iOS)

3. Being Friendly Goes a LONG Way

Because this hack requires you knowing if the store will let you return items in-store that were bought from their website, start up a friendly conversation with an employee and ask if this is an option.

By being upfront with what you’re trying to accomplish it will take the stigma out of it. After-all, it is nothing more than smart shopping.

While this hack is not something you can take advantage of during every shopping trip, it certainly is something to be aware of, especially at Macy’s where in-store and online pricing can very wildly.

What Happens If I Originally Paid Cash?

You’ll get money back in your original form of payment, so you can expect to get cash back on a cash purchase at Macy’s.

What If I Used a Coupon on the Original Purchase?

This gets a little tricky.

You CANNOT use a previously applied Macy’s coupon code when getting a price adjustment.

So be sure to do the math and figure out if the price adjustment is actually a better price when removing the coupon code from the equation.

Can I Use a 3rd Party to Get Price Protection?

No.

Citing privacy issues, Macy’s does NOT allow you to use a service like EARNY and Capital One Shopping that automatically asks for price protection on your behalf.

So the bottom-line is that Macy’s will ONLY take price protection requests directly from the customer.

Ask the Reader: Have you ever gotten a price adjustment at Macy’s? Was it an easy deal or did you run into hassles?

When Does Walmart Restock? Use This Info to Save Money

Updated November 17, 2023 by Kyle

I was recently at my local Walmart and noticed that an entire shelf of pasta was practically empty. I then turned the corner and noticed that their ground coffee selection was almost cleared out. It was on a Sunday afternoon and it made me wonder when Walmart does their restocking. So I started asking around and got all the answers to my restocking questions. Here’s everything you need to know plus some tips to how to use this information to save money on your next grocery bill.

When Does Walmart Restock? Use This Info to Save Money

How Often Does Walmart Restock?

Every weekday in the middle of the night.

Walmart restocks general merchandise like groceries, clothing, home items with night crews during the week.

They are typically done restocking shelves by 7 a.m.

I was told they get 1-2 trucks of goods per day and they try to send products “truck to shelf” with little inventory in the back of the store.

Is There a Day of the Week That is Best to Shop?

Monday – Friday when stores open.

To get first dibs on hot items, it’s best to get to Walmart shortly after the doors open during the week.

Is There a Worst Day to Shop?

Sunday afternoon.

By far the worst day to shop for non-perishables is Sunday afternoon as most shelves haven’t been restocked in over 48 hours and you’re gonna find some very picked over aisles.

This is a bummer for many families as Sunday is often the only day of the week when people have time to shop and meal plan for the following week.

If at all possible avoid Sundays and shop on the way home from work on Monday for more selection.

When it comes to perishables like produce, dairy, and even meats, most stores get a delivery truck EVERY DAY of the week so it shouldn’t matter what day you shop, just shop early if you can.

Do Different Departments Restock on Different Days?

Yes.

While Walmart does not have the same restocking schedule as Target, they absolutely have department that need more frequent restocking.

I was told by an employee that the departments that get restocked the most often are

Are Perishable Items Stocked More Frequently?

Walmart meat discount

Yes.

Meat and grocery items are stocked at night during the week, then again during the day as needed.

Hack Alert: The key here is to shop early in the morning for meats for ONE simple reason…by 8 a.m., the meat department has discounted their meats for quick a sale, and you can grab some great deals, often up to 75% off.

How About Popular Electronics?

Wednesday morning.

I was told by a Walmart employee that the vast majority of electronics get restocked in the wee hours of the morning on Wednesday.

Not sure if every Walmart works the same, but it’s worth asking especially around Christmas when hot electronics tend to sell out quickly.

Does Walmart Only Restock at Night?

No.

If Walmart runs out of a product, but has more inventory in the store, they’ve been known to pull stock from the back, or from shelving, and restock during day shifts.

This is especially true if you ask them to check for more inventory and they locate some.

I’ve personally had Walmart employees pull down a BBQ that was out-of-stock on the floor, but was clearly visible in the shelving above.

A couple workers pulled out the forklift, closed off the aisle for safety, and got the BBQ down for me.

It was much appreciated and all I had to do was politely ask.

Is Restocking Different Around Black Friday or Christmas?

Yes.

The store is going to be stocked very differently on Black Friday, with many endcaps and aisles bursting with doorbuster deals.

Expect the biggest differences in the electronics and small kitchen appliance departments, with new “made just for Black Friday” products everywhere.

They’ll often be restocked during the day on Black Friday and Saturday as stuff sells out.

Do All Walmart Stores Stock the Same Items?

No.

While all Walmart locations carry the same staple and grocery items, they also carry items that are VERY specific to their geographical location.

For example, Walmart locations in Nebraska carry a ton of University of Nebraska football shirts, hats, and jerseys. You aren’t going to find those items in Iowa or California, unless you shop on the Walmart website.

Some locations even carry merchandise and clothing from local high schools which is super cool.

Does Walmart Restock Their Website Differently?

Yes.

The products stocked at Walmart warehouses are obviously not stocked in the same way as physical retail locations.

I was told by a Walmart warehouse representative that stock tends to roll in more randomly, and recently has been effected by supply chain backlogs.

Walmart also states that they sometimes run out of stock between the time you checkout from the website, to when they actually attempt to process your order.

If this happens, they’ll send you an email to inform you that your order has been cancelled.

It will be up to you to check back to see when/if the item is available.

Can I Get a Rain Check on Something That is Out-Of-Stock?

No.

Walmart does not offer rainchecks when shopping in-store or online.

But it’s worth noting that Walmart does have a quasi layaway program through a service called Affirm that might be worth checking out if you would like to buy now, but pay later.

Ask the Reader: Are you a Walmart employee and know more about their restocking schedule that I do? Let me know in the comments.

How to Find Amazon Liquidation Stores Near You and Save BIG in the Process

As an avid Amazon shopper, I’m always looking for ways to save money with the online retail giant. From shopping at their little-known Online Warehouse Outlet, to figuring out how to buy their returns for cheap, I’m always on the search for ways to save. This made me wonder if there were stores in my local area that bought and sold Amazon returns and liquidated Amazon products for cheap. After some digging, I found an Amazon return store, also known as an “Amazon Liquidation Store”, about 10 miles away. So off I drove and quickly discovered that the savings at the store were pretty incredible, so I wanted to show you how to find an Amazon return store in your neck of the woods so you can start saving too. Here’s EVERYTHING you need to know.

How to Find Amazon Liquidation Stores Near You and Save BIG in the Process

What Exactly is an Amazon Return Store?

Amazon return store shoppers

As the name suggests, an Amazon Return Store buys and sells Amazon products that were returned by customers for a myriad of reasons.

They are a great place to shop for bargains on home décor, electronics, toys, tools, clothing, shoes, patio furniture, and small kitchen appliances.

These stores typically don’t only sell Amazon returns, they often source liquidations from Target, Home Depot, and Walmart as well.

How Do I Find a Return Store Near Me?

The best way to find a store near you is through Google and Facebook.

Start by doing a Google search for one of the following,

“Amazon return store near me”

“Amazon bin store TOWN NAME” – this is the exact search that stumbled me onto my local “Bargain Bins” store.

“Liquidation store TOWN NAME”

“Amazon salvage store near me”

“Amazon liquidation store TOWN NAME”

Next hit up Facebook and do the exact SAME searches.

If you have any of these stores near you, Google and/or Facebook will quickly find them for you and you probably won’t have to do more than 2 searches.

See Also: Amazon Warehouse Deals: How to Find the ABSOLUTE Best Deals

Are These Products from Amazon Liquidation Pallets?

Yes.

The vast majority of products are sourced from buying Amazon liquidation pallets from sites like Liquidation.com and DirectLiquidation.com.

What Brands Will I Typically Find Within?

Farberware coffee maker

Depends.

Unfortunately, it’s impossible to predict the brands you might find as every store is different and dependent on the pallet of returned merchandise that they purchase.

But, to give you an idea, from shopping at my local “Bargain Bins” store, I found these brands to name just a few:

– Disney

– Sony

– Anker

– Logitech

– Farberware

– Ryobi

– Cuisinart

– Black & Decker

– Samsung

– Stanley Tools

– Shakespeare Fishing Poles

– 3M

– Nike

– Adidas

How Much Savings is Typical at These Stores?

Easily 50% off the retail price, often WAY more, I personally saw savings close to 90% off the original price.

The “Bargain Bins” store near me works like this:

Thursday – Everything in the store is $12

Friday – Everything in the store is $8

Saturday -Everything in the store is $4

Sunday -Everything in the store is $2

Monday – Everything in the store is 2 for $1

Tuesday and Wednesday – Closed

If your Amazon “bin” store is setup the same way, the BEST strategy is to start by shopping on a Thursday (when the store opens) and see what in-stock products and brands they have, then come back Sunday afternoon and see what is left.

This will give you a great idea at how quickly stuff is sold and at what price point.

Be prepared for a crowd on Thursday and a mad scramble when the doors open, it reminded me of the old Black Friday days.

A saw shoppers scoring microwaves, a mini fridge, large framed art prints, and electronics (think sound bars, headphones, and charging stations) for only $12 each.

Also, if your store is still relatively new, many bargain shoppers might not be aware of it yet, allowing you to take advantage of deals on Sunday and Monday at pennies on the dollar.

If you’re a reseller on eBay the Sunday and Monday bargains could be a great way to source inventory that you can resell for a quick profit.

Are the Products Often Defective?

Sometimes, but not typically.

While the items are typically in working condition, they sometimes have scratches, dents, and small imperfections.

I saw a lamp that had been squished, many boxes that had been ripped open at one point, and even a mattress that had some grease on it.

So you’re definitely taking a risk, especially on electronics, but at the low price point the risk is negligible in my opinion.

Are All Purchases Going to Be Final Sale?

Yes.

Because you’re buying products at liquidation prices, you can expect there to be NO return policy in place.

So once you buy the item, and walk out the door, you’re stuck with it.

The good news is you can easily resell the item on eBay if you don’t want it, often at a profit.

Can I Find Amazon Essentials at These Stores?

Amazon Essentials slippers

Yes.

I took the above picture recently when I went to our local “Bargain Bins” Amazon liquidation store with my daughter.

She bought these BRAND NEW leather moccasin slippers for only $4, Amazon sells them for over $20.

Can I Return These Items to Amazon?

No.

If you’re thinking of somehow returning products bought at a discount to Amazon for a profit, think again, it can’t be done.

First of all, you’ll need evidence that you bought the item from Amazon in the first place, and secondly, well….there is no secondly, just don’t do it.
